SimpleTrends: Track Sales and Revenue Trends for Your Firm
A one-time purchase. A browser tab. An honest answer to how the firm is actually doing.
The Question Your Accounting Reports Don't Quite Answer
Most small firms track billings, receivables, and overhead. What's harder to see, without building a report, is where new sales and the revenue actually being earned month to month are heading. Those are two different trends, and a firm can look fine on one while quietly slipping on the other.
SimpleTrends was built to answer that specific question — sales and revenue, tracked over time, without a spreadsheet you have to create and manage.
What It Does
SimpleTrends is a lightweight dashboard that tracks two numbers for your firm: the net fees booked when work is sold, and the revenue actually earned as that work proceeds. It compares both against your firm's monthly overhead and rolls everything into a trailing twelve-month view, so a single slow month doesn't distort the view on where the firm is headed.
The dashboard itself is four KPI cards and a monthly grid:
Active projects and their total fees
Current and year-to-date profit or loss
Trailing twelve-month revenue and sales, with a trend indicator
Backlog — the fee balance still to be earned across active work
Below the KPI cards, a monthly grid mirrors the way most firms would track this informally, with every fee balance and monthly total calculated automatically.
Why It's Useful, Beyond the Dashboard Itself
Backlog tells you if a new hire makes sense. Unearned fee balance across active projects is a more honest signal than gut feel when deciding whether the firm can support another salary.
A slowing trend line is an early warning, not a late one. By the time revenue drops, the pipeline problem is usually three to six months old. Watching the trailing twelve-month sales trend gives you that lead time back.
It helps balance deadlines against available staff. Seeing revenue and backlog side by side, project by project, makes overcommitment visible before it becomes a scheduling crisis.
It shows the real cost and benefit of contract staff. The built-in Fee Assignment Calculator lets you try scenarios on a project before deciding whether a phase gets done in-house or includes contract staff.
It answers "how are we doing?" faster than a bookkeeper's report. Your accounting reports are accurate and usually a few weeks behind. This is built for the faster, less formal version of that same question.
What It Is Not
SimpleTrends is not an accounting system. It does not handle invoicing, payroll, or general ledger entries, and it isn't meant to replace whatever software already does that for your firm. It runs entirely in your browser with no login and no cloud sync — your data stays on your device, and a built-in backup export is the way to keep it safe. It's built for one administrator tracking the firm's overall trend, not for several people editing live data at once.

It's built for a single administrator — typically a principal or office manager — tracking the firm's overall numbers, not for simultaneous multi-user editing.
-
DSGNBDGT calculates design budgets within a single project. SimpleTrends tracks sales and revenue trends across the whole firm over time. Many firms may want both.
