Making An Image With AI

AI can help small-firm architects punch above their weight.

I haven’t used ChatGPT much. My go-to AI app is Perplexity because it offers access to several AI models. I use a Pro account.

Recently I was exploring the ChatGPT app (free version) and noticed that creating an image was a prominent option. So just for grins I gave ChatGPT this prompt.

Explore https://www.architekwiki.com and create an image that’s representative of the website.

What I got was a mockup of a webpage that was representative of the website. Not what I wanted; but GIGO. It was pretty much what I asked for.

So I gave a follow-up prompt.

“Now create a suitable logo for the website.”

This was more like it. I may actually use something like this somewhere.

I have seen “big time” projects that had their own logo. Nowadays any project could afford to have their own logo.

Next I gave this follow up prompt.

“Using the logo just created as inspiration, make a favicon for the website.”

I have a tiny bit of experience designing favicons, and I am not sure this would work all that well. (A favicon BTW is the tiny image in the website address bar of a web browser.)

So I prompted:

“Simplify the favicon by using just the compass image.”

I think this would work pretty well.

So besides being mildly interesting, this exercise gives me and you more evidence of what AI models are currently capable of.

I think that eventually AI will become very human like and very capable. I don’t think the current models are on the right track. Once they figure out why it works we will really see some progress. Although the status quo is going to be a major obstacle to rapid adoption.

Nevertheless there is no point in ignoring the technology because small advantages are already appearing. Many of them can help you achieve things you may have thought only a big firm could do.

You don’t want to be the last firm to get on the bus.
