I announced that I was closing down MyCorbu in March of this year, 2021, three years after its launch. The last users have until January 5th to wrap up before I delete the app entirely. However, I can copy MyCorbu to your own Knack account and you can continue using it as long as you like. So far one user has opted to do just that. The reason for closing down MyCorbu is simple. The cost of the records created by users increases faster than the revenue that MyCorbu receives. This could have been solved by increasing the price, but that would decrease the number of users. I am probably not going to live forever, so the exit strategy depended on MyCorbu becoming profitable enough to attract a buyer or at least someone willing to manage it. In my opinion that was never going to happen. The positive side of this story is that MyCorbu is going to be reborn as Ochre. You can follow along on that journey here. What is different about Ochre? Ochre will be a simpler version of MyCorbu that you can obtain for free and run on your own Knack account. The process worked so well for the one user who is doing that with MyCorbu that I think it is worth trying. I will receive a commission from Knack for each account established this way. Even though I still have the cost of my own Knack account, after a handful of users adopt Ochre, I will break even. And, importantly, your copy of Ochre does not depend on anyone except Knack to keep going indefinitely.
