Reception Counter Casework

8/5/2015

Picture
A custom casework reception counter requires details to describe what is required. While striving to accommodate the work flow of the user, it is pointless to make it too customized - people move on.

Not shown here are the ADA counter height and knee space that is required now. See this article for one solution.

The transaction top is shown 14" deep, which is a good size for signing in on visitors' list. Overhanging the front face of the casework a few inches would improve the detail. Also using a work surface height of 30" would be preferred.

The front face of the casework can be any material you like. This counter was curved to fit the space, and limited the choices somewhat.

A Simple Custom Counter

1/5/2014

Eqpt+Furn
Simple Counters, those without other casework, are useful in various situations: reception areas where loose drawer units can be used, mail room, copier alcove, even work stations. By detailing the conditions, you create a basis for the level of detail that the project should receive.

These details are suggested to specify any special configuration, construction and materials required for the conditions you need, especially heights and spans. The wall shown forming the freestanding counter is not self-supporting. Add return walls or fit it between two columns.

Details like these could act as typical details covering many different counters.

Courtroom Fixed Furniture Details

9/20/2013

Picture
Details of Courtroom Furniture are a necessity. The configuration and appearance can't be left to the whim of the fabricator. The expectations of the fixed furnishings are for 50 years or more of service. Quality materials and workmanship are easily justified. It is not uncommon for specialized features to be required, making attention to detail all the more necessary.

These details represent one solution to the specific requirements of a unique installation. Similar details would be needed for other projects.

Fixed Furniture is often like a miniature project, requiring a layout, structure, enclosure, finishes, and utilities.

Stage Floor Front Edge Detail

6/17/2013

Picture
Stage floors are usually wood on a sleeper assembly. This detail shows the stage floor with a concrete substructure descending into an orchestra pit. In more elaborate theatrical settings, there is often accessible space below the stage.
Placing the stage floor over sleepers provides for some spring in the floor. A 'sprung' floor is desirable for dance and theatrical presentations as well as other types.
The key features of the detail are the:
  • construction of the stage floor including sleepers
  • anchorage of the floor at the edge
  • edge configuration and construction
  • safety lighting recess to denote the edge in darkness
  • acoustical panels in the orchestra pit (which are optional)
